In the all-school assembly on MLK day, a slideshow highlighted people who fight for civil rights and demonstrate the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pictures and names were presented without context. You have the opportunity to educate the entire Webb community about these people.

Working as a team, you will research the people in the presentation and create a “grid article” that contains a photo and a brief blurb about each person. These blurbs can be biographical, but they should certainly focus on the person’s contribution to the fight for civil rights and justice.

You will use library resources to complete the task. I recommend ProQuest to pull from periodical resources, as well as the NY Times to get more contemporary articles.

Serena will act as copy editor and fact checker (because of this she is responsible just for one). Be sure to fill out the spreadsheet with your name next to the people you research; also include a link to the article you pull from so Serena can double check the accuracy of your work.

You should not quote everything verbatim, but strive to accurately convey the information in your own voice. You should aim to research at least two entries (some will need to do three to get everyone covered). You should aim to have a grid article up by the end of class today for us to be able to publish timely, impactful content.
